About My Late Father – PBUH!

September 16th 2015

Father

Day before yesterday my granddaughter Sibel was in tantrums because I guess she missed her Mother who had to go to Dubai for a day because of Official Business. Today she was very happy with her Mother’s return – and even hymning Twinkle – Twinkle Little Star! The tune is there – if not the words!

I wondered out aloud and comparing my granddaughter time with our times – because even in the bloody Zanzibar Revolution with killings and atrocities committed against Omani Arabs especially – even outside our street – but we were afraid to express our feelings of acute shock and fears! Afraid that if you said something out of turn – you may end with a slap – even if you were so scared and afraid!

Our children nowadays – and their children too – have more freedom and expression = and show of real emotions – unhindered and unblocked – than we ever dreamt to have! Our times were different to theirs now – Allah God Be Praised.

Our Late Father knew top VIPs in Oman. He rode the same donkey to school. I have written a lot about him in My Books – www.myownmajid.com

He always forbade us of living beyond our means – and taking bribes and corruption! He said to us – Do not disgrace yourself to go to Big Famous People to ask for favours and recognition! Remember your roots as we are just Poor Peoples and with Simply No Wastah or Connections! See the article I wrote on him below!

My grandparents were travelling from Manah Nizwa – place of birth – and as just mere teens to go to Africa. My Father who was just getting into adult hood saw a ‘pretty Omani girl’ – my Elder Mother – and fell in love with her! He refused to go to Zanzibar with my grandparents despite ‘repeated canning and beatings! So in the end they allowed him to get married to her – and they left without him! When his children were 12 (my elder brother) and 10 (my elder sister) respectively only then he went with his family to Tanzania. This was during the turbulent dark days of our Omani history when Omanis left in hordes to look ‘for greener pastures outside’.

Today I had an unpleasant dealing again with The Newspaper where I wrote my columns for 14 years – before The mainly sadly Indian Mafias and The Old Guards abruptly ended my columns – because I was refusing not To Speak The Truth – and pushing the dirt into the already piled up stinking carpet!

With due and sincere apologies!

Al Hamdu Lillah. Allah Is Great!

Best wishes and regards,

Majid Al Suleimany

My Letter to The Oman Daily Observer!

September 17, 2015

On Covering My Books in The Press even if I wrote for them for 14 years before unceremoniously and abruptly ended.

 35A - Front Cover

About My Thirty Five Books!

They covered a Dr Asya Al Bualy who wrote a book about one Fatma Barwani Ninja and the function was opened by HE The Minister of Information of Oman.

The woman was married to one Yusuf Himid who was instrumental in Zanzibar Revolution causing over 50000 Omanis to be killed in Bloody Zanzibar Revolution. Yet her story of the wife novels were opened ceremoniously by our own Minister.

This is My Apology Letter to them and then wrote in Facebook etc about My Late Father. Al Hamdu Lillah

Please accept my apologies for writing to express my dissatisfaction for your book coverage and presentation by HE MOI. It is none of my business and it was sent at a weak moment when our jealousy and envy streak kicked in that I had not received even a quarter of similar treatment with 37 books and even on more important serious topics that the country really needs even in Arab Management  – Road Safety etc.

I have to realise I come from an Arab Omani Interior born poor Father unknown and with no Wastah and my Mother born in Zanzibar even if grandparents are Interior also but went to Africa in their teens.

Please accept my sincere apologies. There is no need to fight these things but simply to accept the status quo that without Wastah you are mere nothing trifle unfortunately now in our country as it is.

Please carry on the good works!

Ma Salaamah! You will not hear from me ever again.  Byeee!

alhamdulillah[1]

SHOW NO FEAR – DOGS WILL NOT HEAR.

OR SHOW NO DOGS FEAR.

Show No Dogs Fear!

DOG-300x207[1]

Show No Dogs Fear!

At the age of 8 years old, four decades ago when we were residing in Mafia Island in Tanzania, my father and I met some wild dogs when we were moving about the island. My late father (died 12 years ago – PBUH) cautioned me to hold on to his hand ‘and show no fear, because dogs easily smell fear’.

But if you act brave and show no fear, they either leave you alone or move away’. At first I did not believe this was to be possible, but the dogs did exactly like dad said they would, and left us alone-despite a lot of initial ‘hard’ barking earlier on.

Later on, I used to play with some puppies after getting over my initial fear of dogs. I did not know then that dogs were considered as ‘unclean animals and to be avoided in touch especially’ – because the puppy had followed me to the Masjid (Mosque). Yet I wanted to pray in the congregation – and someone told my late Father – Sheikh Said, your son Majid was playing with the puppies – and yet he wants to pray now with us!

I got such a beating that I have never forgotten it to this day. You cannot blame the puppies – because for them a Masjid looks just like another building from their side – and it is up to you to keep them away – and actually not play with them in the first instance!

At times in life, one meets with a lot of situations like above when you are called upon to make difficult and hard decisions and choices. Life is full of making tough decisions and choices. One option is to do nothing and pretend that the problem is not there, the other is as is being said ‘to catch the bull by its horns’ when you have to act – sometimes fast too!

Sometimes you make decisions in life which at the time may seem right, only to find out later that you should have acted otherwise. Or you leave an option which you think is wrong, only to find out later that it was the better idea and choice. But the saying always holds true-‘those who dare-actually win’! Those who never try, never win’! Or as they say – the birds fly – because they know they can – or you you can never know how far you can go; till you have tried first!

Sometimes situations force you to behave in a way that you would not normally behave otherwise. This I had found out recently very difficult to pursue, but in the end I did so despite my own personal first inclinations and feelings – that my sanity, integrity and respects must first come first and foremost – so I quit the place after a long goodbye. I would have eventually been the loser, and those adversaries and those against me from the outset as the winners.

My late father used to advise me from the incident of the dogs. He used to tell me ‘if you show fear, or run away, the dogs like it more- because you are condescending yourself to their own level-and they will chase you for sure’.

My late father used to advise me from the incident of the dogs. He used to tell me ‘if you show fear, or run away, the dogs like it more- because you are condescending yourself to their own level-and they will chase you for sure’.

He also advised us his children – If you are in a dhow (boat) where everyone is One-Eyed – including the Captain – close one eye – otherwise they will come and take out one eye in their fits of envy and jealousy – and you never know because they could blind you completely in their eagerness to take out one eye so you can be like them!

They also say – do not bang your head against brick walls – only you have your head hurt and swollen in the process – and the brick wall is not even touched! You simply cannot remove people’s bias and dim-witted subjective individualistic views – so why try at all!

It is also said by the Romans that those that the gods want to destroy they make them lose their senses – and make them not see, hear or speak too in the process.

So why fight the system and the situation. There is no point or added use or advantage. You become the victim of circumstances by your own hand by showing you are different from others – and for making a stand and for being forthright and firm in your stand – views, focus and determination! Go with the tide – even if all the fish are dead – act dead also!

There are more important things in life than to be listened to and to be heard your case and situation. Even our own Great Prophet PBUH met the same experience from the idol worshippers in Mecca! And the hypocrites that pretended to go on – when they were actually against our Great Prophet PBUH. People destined for doom and destruction cannot be saved – especially when they do not want to be saved – so move along – let it go – let it pass!

The Chinese have this expression that I really like – If you are digging a grave for your enemy; dig two – and keep one for yourself! This saying speaks volumes in itself! Don’t you agree?

There is also this point as in our Religion. Do not ask for any help or favours from human beings – because you lose your standing, respects and esteem by doing so! Ask only your Allah SWT – God Only – because He likes to be asked – and to give!

It then made me convinced that I MUST GO ON NOW before it is too late! Especially for myself – because no one knows how long we shall live (leave?) in this world!

In one of the scenes in The Film – Moses –The Ten Commandments – The Great Prophet (PBUH) is seen to lament why he was chosen to lead his people and was asking God why it was so – and had not left him alone to be just a simple normal person without this heavy burden and load on his shoulders.

In our Islamic Holy Book – The Holy Quraan – in Surat (verse) Ad DhuhaThe Glorious Morning Light – our Great Prophet PBUH is told 3 – Your Guardian Lord Has Not Forsaken You, Nor is He Displeased6 – Did He not find you an Orphan and Give you shelter and care? 7 – He found you wandering And he gave you guidance – 8 – And He found you In need, and made you Independent – 9 – Therefore treat not the orphan with harshness 10 – Nor repulse him who asks (needs) – 11- But the Bounty of The Lord Rehearse and Proclaim!

In this Surat (verse), the vicissitudes of human life are referred to, and a message of hope and consolation is given to man’s soul from God’s past mercies – and he is bidden to pursue the path of goodness and proclaim the bounties of God. It talks about the usual scorn people have of people who come forward to ask for help and assistance – and are ignored – and their losing faith aspects.

It talks about being kind to such people – though helping people is by choice and is most encouraged in Islam. If need be, turning away such needy people has to be done with kindness and gentleness – and not harshness and or ugly cruel cutting approach – because it is the same God that gave you and also facing you – and that needy person who wants help from you now!

One of the people that I greatly admire is Gandhi. On the subject this is what he said – You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. He further said – I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won’t presume to probe into the faults of others.

There is also this expression in Swahili – Anaye kunyima maharagwe, ana kupunguziya ushuuzi! Those who deny you red kidney beans – just deny (reduce) you the gas (farts)..

During this difficult choice, I had, my late father had come to me in my dreams to remind me of this incident (or was it by telepathy?). I am determined to win – with God’s Grace and Blessings I am convinced that I will win Inshallah Amin God Willing. It is not how many times you fall – but how many times you get up – and keep going. I have had many falls in the past – but I got up – and went on.

What The Old Man Had Said!

Written in July 2009!

Father

Image My Late Father PBUH

During these difficult times, I thought it is essential, imperative and fundamentally important to share this one with you today on My Late Father (PBUH).

Hopefully all of us and The Younger Generation can learn from it all – Inshallah! Though admittedly I feel still so empty, vacuum, desolate and despondent that all I had tried to caution, counsel and warn in my books went to waste – and it seemed nobody had read my books at all. Especially A Cry For Help! I had talked about the increasing expectations – and the lack of tolerances and patience – especially amongst the youngsters especially – and how some few misbehaving expatriates would cause a great deal of trouble and havoc here..

My Late Father was not that educated – nor did he speak any good English – but my late Father was the most educated, intelligent, smart, wise and pragmatic person that I ever saw in my life!. Whilst there are many problems Father to Son Relationships – My Father and I were Best Friends to say the least. We could communicate and touch base at the highest levels. I try to do the very same with my children too.

This is an extract about My Late Father (Peace Be Upon Him) and from My Book A Cry For Help! – A.15 – The Oman FM Radio Interview – in June 2007. The Announcer is Mrs. Judith Razaq (JR) and me (MS)

JR – Majid – Who has the greatest influence in your life than anybody else?

MS – I think it is my Father more than anybody else because my Father was straight forward.

He made a lot of friends and he also made a lot of enemies too. Because if somebody had upset him- he never went about a long way to tell him so. My Father sometimes when we invite guests to our house – he is dead now- so Father – Father please Father -Please put the brakes on! He would say – the food is for you – eat it – I am not going to tell you more than once! You are the guests – the food is for you – please eat it. I tell Father – you do not have to tell them these things! You know he is straight forward. And he has been telling us- that you should not be scared or to be afraid!

Always tell the truth even if it may cost you – you must do the right correct same thing. But please do not go for lies and deceptions.

My late Father was particularly against taking loans (interests!) and living beyond our means – or trying to brag and show off in life. He also told us – Do not be deceived you have a rich powerful family, relative or friend – because nobody is going to help you – except yourself and your Lord only! To Him you go for help and salvation – and nobody else – if you want to be happy and live comfortably in this world! Live within your means – and do not overspent – or be stingy in life! Also earn your living honestly and sincerely!

And yes – Do not be jealous and envious of others especially within your own family! Because God does not like this in men. He is The Giver and The Provider – and He decides whom to give (more or less) or not at all. When you become jealous and envious – it means in other words that you are challenging The Lord himself!

Do not ask for kindness, mercies and favours from anyone in this life – except the Lord only! But if somebody came to you for help and assistance – help him – because The Lord favours those who are kind and compassionate to their fellow human beings – and The Lord is particularly angry on those who can help but do not – it is the same Lord who gave you that is denying him – and the Lord is testing you now!

Do not be obstinate and difficult in life – and listen to the advices of your parents and elders. Respect others and their belongings – just as you are doing yours and would not want others to harm yours either. A good Muslim is one who wants the same good things for himself for others to have too! Work hard and diligently for yourself and for your family – and never put all your faith and trust in people – because they can let you down badly and unexpectedly!

My Father ended being just a Grocery Shopkeeper in his life – though he rode the same donkey to school with people who were his peers in becoming great public figures and very rich and powerful elites – from his home village in Hail Al Ghaaf – Quriyaat – and after his parents had moved from Manah in Nizwa!

If we only had listened – To what the Old Man had said!! A great man lived – and went! May Allah God Protect and Preserve us all – Amin… Take Care!

Stick Together As One!

As kids, we have read all these stories. Most of us have been told these stories by our parents, grandparents or have read them in school too!! How come we conveniently have forgotten all these now?

This is the story of the Father laying on his deathbed and calling his children around him. Then he gives each child a stick and asks them to break the stick in two. Each one of them is able to do that. Then he takes all the sticks and ties them up in a bundle. He then asks each child to do the same. None of them are able to break up the bundle.

Each one of them looks in amazement and awe at their dying father and what he is now up to. Then the father cautions – so long as you stick together as one, nothing will ever happen to you in your lives. But if you get out of the bundle and be as a single stick, everyone outside can break you into two. You must always be together and act as one.

Remember this always my children! If you want to bring in drama and heroics in, the father soon dies after saying this. In real life, the father lives a bit longer, before the last breath leaves his body, giving enough time for his children to do their home works and comprehend their father’s teachings

***

He had said – Do not do bad things to others! Especially to someone who considers you as a friend – trusts you – and has simply done nothing wrong to you! Because – What Goes Around; Comes Around! You will be punished in this world itself – before even they bury you in your grave!

Please Respect Life! Stop Being Carefree and Callous!

By Majid Al Suleimany

September 8th 2015

  • “Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.” (Qur’an, 5:32)
  • Some countries were more humane under Communism than now under EU – Hungary!
  • Germans proved once again their hearts beat at the right places!
  • We are not interested to go to Europe! Please just Stop The War so we can stay in peace in our own country! – 12 year old Syrian Boy to Al Jazeera TV!

In the 1970s as a student in UK, I was really emotionalised to see this Fire Brigade Rescue Team spending so much time and efforts to save a puppy that had ventured into a manhole. I was on my way to The University – and decided instead to watch! After more than an hour they were able to get the puppy out – amidst all clapping from the Spectators! It really amazed and touched me to witness this episode – and it stayed with me for a long time to come!

As a HR Duty Officer in my old oil company – two things also struck me a lot! For a long time I was marvelling at humanity –its ups and downs – human strengths, foibles and weaknesses! One incident where a British lady was reversing her 4WD – and inadvertently ran over her dog! Remember this was in the early 1970s – where there were no rear view cameras fitted – especially in 4WD. I was not on Duty – but as Replacement Officer in case the Real Duty Officer was not available!

So I asked the Lady why you called me? She told me that she got my contact from The Emergency Control Team – after the Duty Officer (Fellow Omani) was reluctant to get involved as this was nothing to do with ‘Company Operations’ – and as he had ‘already contacted the Medical Team’ to see if they could do anything to help her! His job was done – was the declaration.

I guess there were no Veterinary Clinics during those days! She went into obscenities ‘about you people’ saying ‘ugly unpleasant unneeded ‘things to me! I listened ruefully painstakingly being patient as our HR jobs professionalisms required us to do! The part that really set her off mad was when she called my colleague and said to him – listen to dog howling!

This set my colleague laughing! Laughing – she streaked – and sarcastically asked him – do you want me to run over the dog again so I could kill it? With the equal sarcastic response – Lady I have already done my job – do not insult me please! It is your dog – do what you want with it!

I contacted one good Omani Doctor – who was not on Duty Rota anyway. He decided to help the lady – after my insistence ‘begging’ for him to do something. He gave it a ‘pain relief’ something injection – but the dog died anyway! It was like a man had died – with the cryings of the children – and the self-guilt etc.

The Second incident was a 12 years old Salalah boy on his first visit to Muscat and at the Club! By misfortune the boy had drowned at the Swimming Pool – guess he was not knowing how to swim – and also as told he had a full meal before going into the Pool! There was a ‘Drinking’ Party at the time – and sadly the person who signed in the Party to The Club was at this function! After the Doctors did a quick autopsy and the body was taken away, the Party went on unabated! This shocked me to the core – and it hurt and pained me a lot!

The strange and crude thing was that it was only a few years after our family returned to Oman from Zanzibar then – and there was a culture society shock still on – because in my state of shock and sadness I had ventured to hug and comfort one of the parental ladies relative to the dead boy – and she literally pushed me away – as ‘was not on’ thing! Saddened me more when my peers thought ‘it was a big joke’ the next day in Office! Of me wanting to hug the lady! Was she pretty? – The joke went!

When my granddaughter was born she had to undertake a major heart operation. It was touch and go! But by the Mercy and Grace of Allah God she survived and is today a 10 year old girl! What shocked and scared me more was the callous approach – if ‘she will survive’ etc. is in the hands of God! But we could pray to him – could we not?

Today in the news I read again the Headline news! Girl, 4, dies after being left on bus! Another young life lost in bus! It will be headline news till the next case! Same follies and mistakes being repeated over and over again –with no real punishments to the culprits – but just a slight tap on the hands!

Aylan Aylan 2

Lifeless Body of Aylan Turki

Then there was the case of the Drowned Syrian boy – Aylan Kurdi – Rest in Peace in Heaven! The whole world was agog and shocked by his lifeless drowned body – but here in our part of the world already de-humanised de-touching feeling by scenes in Syria, Iraq and Yemen etc. – it was just another photo in the media – main and social! Even Germany was said to be touched – and opened the borders for them Migrants.

Aylan 3

Aylan and Brother in Happier Days!

Here we are still busy ‘throwing insults and threats’ – even amongst our own! They are now closing the borders between GCC countries – let alone using verbal threatening against one another! When will we learn? Before it is too late for us all?

Allah Guide us to The Right Path and Way – and Protect and Preserve us from his anger and fury – Amin!

Are You Fasting This Ramadhan?

Are You Fasting This Ramadhan?

Did you pass the examination?

 June 23, 2015

The Real Test of Time!

Ramadan 1 Ramadan 2 Ramadan 3

I do not know about you, but it has happened to me! I have gone to these Academic Examinations where I thought the exam was quite easy – and had even left before the last half hour where exits are no longer allowed! The results at the end where quite shocking! I have also gone to exams where I thought I had failed! Only to find surprisingly that I just managed through a Pass mark! I was so sure I had failed and was already studying for a reseat exam! This was in Physics – which I really hated!

You see I became and am an Arts Student – and as I was not good in Science Subjects – especially in Physics and Mathematics! In one famous Chemistry exam, I had failed badly – because I did not read the instructions carefully before attempting the examination! The instructions were to choose one question each from Sections A to C – and guess what I did! I thought it said only one question from A or B or C – and I failed the examinations badly!

Now the Holy Month of Ramadhan is just like a Test to me! If you do not follow the instructions to the test you can fail badly! Like backbiting someone – talking bad things about people – cause trouble strife and mischief and in sowing arguments, discords, splits and division amongst people! Or just looking at things from your angle – and do not care or bother about the rest! Even in the Holy Fasting Month of Ramadhan!

Now we come to the Ten Thousand Dollars Question! Those of us fasting yet suffering from sickness like Diabetic (2) etc. You just end up just wasting your efforts and time – because your Fast will not be accepted – and is like going hungry and thirsty for 15 hours – wasted efforts and energies! You might as well had eaten and drank – instead of fasting! Failed in your Ramadhan Exams! Miserably!

To The VIP Guest! My Sincere Heartfelt Apologies!

I was at one time long time ago at a Religious Scholar house! So I gleefully told him – he was aghast! Only 9 days left for Ramadhan! He scolded me point blank – Ramadhan is a VIP Holy Guest – and you do not show him signs of tiredness and fatigue – of not welcoming him – and wanting him to go!

I started fasting at 8 years old! It was a difficult time! When I saw my late Grandfather cry ‘because Ramadhan was going – and he was not sure if he will fast next time – he had Parkinson and was also a Diabetic! – as a child I thought this weird! Because as a child I wanted it go – as fast as it could! And even as an adult repeated in front of The Sheikh! He said sternly to me – if you talk to Ramadhan like this – as if he was a person! You will make him feel not welcome – and not wanted! No one has forced you to fast!

So I told him I was Acute Diabetic case! He did not accept my explanation – The Religion is clear – if you cannot fast for a valid medical reason – then do not fast! Last year my glucose count went to 3 – so I broke fast 6 days in the month!

So far going strong – and I hope and pray for the best! And Oh Yes – to pass the examinations too!

Allah God Always Direct us all to the Right Path and Way – Ameen!

 Ramadhan Kareem!

 Best wishes and Regards,

Being Positive In Life and At Work!

Being Positive In Life and At Work!

Dear All & After Compliments;

PDO Talents Day  Trafford Release  PP Native Cover.4097374.indd  2 - Behind The Wheel Cover  PDO Talents Day

A         What Has Been Happening So Far!

It has been a long while since I wrote anything in the format of an article for my websites – and as you know my two columns in The Oman Daily Observer took a natural death metaphorically by the wrong prescriptions of drugs and medicines to a slowly dying cancer victim! Sometimes the end comes quicker than expected after remission even – or when the patient was thought to be recovering by a new doctor – who turned out to be even worse than the previous doctors looking after the sick ailing patient – and ‘kicking the bucket’ for all to see!

Of course, with great cheers and happiness from some quarters determined and for some intentional wanting and willing for the columns to end! And yet still with some still craving for some more articles to come out – and a sort of relief that though the columns have ended in the said paper since November 2013 – see here –   – but ‘sort of relieved’ that I was still posting in my websites my articles – mainly in www.majidall.comwww.majidwrite.com – and opinions and views on www.majidsn.com . This apart of my books in www.myownmajid.comwww.myown-ebooks.com and www.majidbooks.com Plus the new websites for Short Takes (Stories) with mainly Omani theme at my new website at www.myshorttakes.com – and the Road Safety website at www.bethesafedriver.com

One can safely say that with all these websites belonging to me – and recently being that active in the Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Whats’ Up etc. – the losers are more the newspaper than me – because if there are still followers and fans out there they can still follow me! There are of course those that bought the newspaper only on the days that my articles would appear because they read more Arabic newspapers – and now will not be doing so! And those fans that may be inclined not to buy the newspaper anymore – because my articles no longer appear!

On 12th of May 2014 – there was a PDO Talents Day – and due to the New Management style now in Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) – I was invited to display my books by the External Affairs Department – EAD – under Engineer Abdul Ameir Al Ajmi and through the leadership and guidance of Raoul Restucci – the good man! With a new openness, foresight and pragmatism – of bringing in more fairness, ethics, principles, professionalism all around in the company – its modus operandi and its environment!

Trust me in saying this but I had carried a lot of Excess Baggage and past bad memories and recriminations with me – and with exceptions of going to the PDO Clinic as ‘wife’ to my working wife still there – just avoided the place – until I got the call that they were translating my book (and for publishing few copies) of my Road Safety Books – Being The Safe Driver! – www.createspace.com/4097374 and Behind The Wheel! – www.createspace.com/4655681 – and more after being invited formally to present my books to the VIPS (Dr.Rumhy and Dr. Sunaidy etc) and as belonging to The PDO Family!

This bit made me feel so ashamed and so bad – and I cried in my heart and with a few tears out! Just shows that if you treat people right and ethical – they may surprise you with what they can deliver! And that is Raoul for you as the new man at the helm in PDO!

In all my mind, I had never thought or imagined that I would be welcomed in into this new great Office building – and display my books! I only visualized how I even was always finding excuses not to drop Madam Wife at the office – because of the heartache and pain inside me – mainly attributed by my mentality of not wanting to forget! And unnecessarily carrying so much Excess Baggage with me! See this – http://majidall.com/as-to-why-i-had-left-my-last-oil-company-loc/ and this one – http://majidwrite.com/2013/09/18/a-letter-to-my-heart-by-majid-al-suleimany/

The turning point for me was when HE Dr. Rumhy told Dr. Sunaidy (HE Ministry of Commerce and Industries) that ‘this is his book that he got an award in USA’ – Psychology of Arab Management Thinking! – USA Gold Seal Literary Excellence Award 2013 – and he himself being USA educated – and during those times when I looked after Overseas Training in PDO – as the only sole man in charge! Of USA Dollars 18 million per year – and thank God and my upbringing – never took even a Baiza that did not belong to me! God Is Great! God Is Merciful!

B         So What Else Is New?

Frankly I had imagined that I would die with my Toyota Camry banger – 8 years old – and gone to 190,000 kms – but the surprise was mine when I still got 2300 OMR for it in exchange of a new GMC Yukon! Those who remember my case will remember how bad I felt in losing my Dodge Durango and my daughter Majda took it over from me! The surprise was all mine when I was now able to get this Yukon instead – incidentally also silver coloured! My favourite colours have been blue, silver, gold and white for my cars in my life!

I have also been chatting with my 5 months old granddaughter Sibel bint Fahad on Modi and The Indian Elections – and other issues – and I do not know what babies’ minds think – but I guess baby had to smile and glee to please granddad as if she knew what I was taking to her about! You would imagine she was apt to understand with her mother Oman born but Pakistani too!

As the good wife was heard to ruefully acclaim – I think you are losing your faculties and mind – by talking to baby on such grand big issues – but the irony was that when granny wanted to take baby out of the ‘hearing scene equation’ – baby cried to be back with grandfather! I guess one day she too will be a great author and writer too – if not going into politics instead! Sic!

C         Okay – So What About The Topic You Started? Remember? Being Positive At Work?

Yes we know M – you have the knack of taking your time to come to the point! Perhaps that infuriated some of them – especially the new man? Or as they say – you take your Reader up to the bridge – and let himself decide whether to cross the bridge – or return? That we know of you M!

D         Being Positive At Work!

You know this thing had made me so raving made that I decided to post in the newspaper as below – in the hope that this place especially would be interested – and I can give them ‘a piece of my mind’ in the hope of changing ‘fixed mind sets’ – like Ghandi had said – I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps and EinsteinA problem cannot be solved by the same level of mind that created it!

The advertisement ran – MBA Omani HR Management Consultant Expert Advisor UK educated and trained Early Retired PDO 25 years experiences in all aspects of HR Training Development Omanisation etc. looking for temporary part time job 8 to 1 pm or Project work majid@majidsuleimany.com – Muscat Daily this week!.

What Happened?

I needed some personal services at a certain prestigious famous place! The first case was just for a copy of an original document that had been given to me! I had the copy – the place I had approached before in the services needed the original resubmitted. So I went to the place. The good man at the other end insisted on me to reapply from scratch again! I knew this process would take a long time and was tiresome! So I asked him whom I can go to get a replacement Original Copy – The Usual To Whom It May Concern Letter!

Frankly I do not know why this public place needed again the same letter I had given to them before – with the usual excuse ‘we could not find the original in your file’ – or just lazy and incompetent not to be bothered to go and look!

So the good man gave me a contact in the Head Offices – and when I called her she told me – come and collect it anytime you are ready to collect – or can send to your branch (or any other branch for that matter!). In actual fact your Branch can give you this letter!

So I went back to the man – and passed on what I was just told! Again at a professional place – the man said – this is not our job – but the Head Offices only! You have to go there to collect it!

I was contemplating to do this – when a brain wave struck me – to go to another Branch to get the letter – and the Incharge gave me the same required letter within 10 minutes with reference to the copy at hand!

I had another issue of the same place. This time I went to The Manager! The good lady said to me – Yes it can be done! But unfortunately she sent me to the same person like before! I knew it! He said – It cannot be done this way! This time I got angry – and told him off!

Anyway, he still won in the end – by doing some changes to what I had originally wanted! Though in a way you can say almost fully done!

Now you see why I was raving mad!

Do you see the difference?

One is a negative mind that sees everything as a problem and difficult – whilst the other was POSITIVE and pragmatic – that sees a solution in almost everything requested of them!

Some people will never change – they take sadistic pleasure to make things difficult for customers – even if in a Public or Professional place for that matter!

Like I cynically and skeptically always say – What else is new? Things have not changed much – at least I stopped writing my columns!

The mind just boggles – could that be a reason my articles died? That I open my mouth too much to speak my mind? You be The Judge!

My Letter To The Newspaper!

Letter To The Newspaper (My Columns!)

Dear Chief Editor & Team

After Compliments;

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for your turning down my article – No Money For The Crayons! For your Weekend Magazine despite a personal call and plea from you yourself to me to send in the article.

The Weekend came – but  my article was not in!

Nobody had called me earlier to explain why the article did not appear. As my style, I sent in my emotional query. The response was ‘the article was not suitable for our requirements’ – but I guess it was your rights and decisions to accept or reject any article. No one can argue or dispute that!

Sadly, the article was received well in the social media including WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Tumblr, Google Plus etc – and I did send you some feedbacks – which as usual were unacknowledged and ignored – as usual! What else is new?

It gave me courage to create my own website dedicated to Short Takes (Stories) here at http://www.myshorttakes.com/

Sadly too, despite a signed contract with the person you took over from  –  my contract of two columns per week and a formal WRITTEN notice of one month from both sides for any changes – I was unceremoniously removed by ultimatum of only one article – take it or leave it – and I chose ‘to leave it’ – or as we lot born in Zanzibar like to say ‘rubbing salt into the wound’! Sic!

So sad and tragic!

And all this because I previously complained bitterly for being delayed in payments for over even 6 months – and then deciding which article to pay or not!

It is sad and tragic how our National Governmental Newspaper can treat this way long time running National Columnists!

But nothing is surprising – because that is how things are goiing now – and one has to accept the status quo only!

On Monday 7th April, 2014 there was a PDO Petroleum Development Oman Retirees Party. As you may know if interested, the biggest chunk of my Readers come from PDO and The MOG Sector – being one of them. Plus Omanis that read English Newspapers more – and all The Residents, Guests and Friends in Oman – AlHamdu Lillah – God Is Great! Ameen – Amen!

I told them they can follow me in The Social Media if still interested – and if they have any issues I can refer them to past articles.

Dear Sirs  – you yourself told me in more than one hour chat with you why you left your previous job to join here!

But I do not blame you – because The Truth is people want the dirt to be pushed under the carpet and those like me daring to speak are targetted, sidelined and marginalised.

The Truth can NEVER BE STOPPED – it is all issues of time and dire consequences and repercussions only!

Nice knowing you all and thanks for the iPhone 5 Ramadhan Gift – at the cost of my columns.

Let me be clear! I do not want resumption of my columns even if paid 100 Rials per article. This is not only for you  but sadly all the other newspapers in Oman for that matter.

Take care and wishing you and your families all the best – and my sincere genuine apologies!

Goodbye….

Dear Majid;

I think as a faithful, caring, feeling, genuine and loyal citizen you have done your bit! No one can deny you this – whatever or however they feel about you! That is The Truth only!

Dear Majid – You yourself have said it! Do not tell someone with eyes to see; with ears to hear; and with a mouth to speak! Or as we Arabs say too – There is no one so blind but with eyes but cannot see – so deaf but with ears cannot hear – and so dumb but with a mouth but cannot speak!

Or as The Romans used to say – Those that the gods want to destroy – the gods make them not able to see, hear or speak!

Dear Majid – I remember your rhetorical story of the man driving fast in his quarrel with his wife at the side grumbling, complaining and nagging at him – and the children at the back seats fighting amongst themselves – and throwing things around at each other! Will the car make an accident? With the distracted driver?

Dear Majid – you are also an acute sick and diabetic case person. You are soon going to be alone with your last daughter getting married – and flying from The Cuckoo’s Nest!

My Dear Majid – it is time you hang up your apron! Take the rest and quiet that you need now in your life! Take care only of yourself – and your family only!

Rest now Dear Majid – you do need the rest, peace and quiet now!

Your work has been done! Take Care – and wishing you all the best!

Whatever is bound to happen – and you are no longer responsible! If it is bound to happen – it will – and there is nothing now you can do to stop it!

You tried your best! You did your bit anyhow – some can say even ‘chewed more than you could take! Now Move On!

Take Care My Brother! My Friend!

Love You,

Majid Al Suleimany.

Open Message To The Offices’ Bosses!

Open Message To The Offices’ Bosses!

Last week I was invited for a social function at a famous Recreation Centre in town. With my family and the group we were enjoying our meal at this Asian Night Theme – and at another end seated at one table were all my so-called some of my ex bosses coincidentally at another table – but just themselves without their families! The ironical part is that they are all retired peoples like myself – in the same status – and the power and authority of the old days in the offices all gone past them! Here they were all at the same level – as just Invitees. No bosses around! Those days all gone past – and dead now! The scare and fear they could instill in others long gone and evaporated too!

So I told the good wife I will go over and ‘stir, tease and joke’ them up a bit! Madam wife was dead set against the idea – and making a foolish spectacle of myself – and in belittling myself in front of others! What for? she whined!

Where there is a will – there is a way! I excused myself – and made my way to the Gents’ to heed the call of nature! On my return – I surprised them with my presence! The surprise was more mine – because at least on the surface they seemed to like my interruption of them – and in visiting them! That made me loose steam – and made me feel bad and guilty long after! One of them had even joked – Be careful! He will write about us in his next column – sic!

As a Diabetic case – I should not take sweets – but I did go for the dish at the end of the meal!

The Message – You never know in life! That Assistant of yours could one day meet you once you are no longer in power and in control – so it is important to be nice and good to people – because one day you will meet them later in life! They will only come to respect and esteem you – if only you have reciprocated in kind! Or there will be no one being sympathetically or feeling for you if bad things or misfortunes ever happen to you in later life!

So be nice to everyone – hopefully they will remember – and reciprocate in kind! Being nasty and in control always – or acting badly to others – doing harm and damages to others – may one day make you accountable to face the wrath and angers of others that you have mistreated badly in the past!

Some of our people are good actors and impersonators – so long as they are ‘afraid’ or need the job – but the future is uncertain once you are out of the office. It is important to remember this always!

*** A Question of Office Space?

January 2nd 2014

*** A Question of Office Space?

Or more sinister forces at work here?

My peer friend Sameer Abdul Razak – SAR – was complaining loudly to The Stranger – The Office Implementer (TOI)! TOI was an expatriate brought all the way from the London Head Offices to come to oversee the offices changes – and moving people around the Offices! Highly paid too – with excellent privileges, perks and benefits! As if this was too much needed expertise that the locals lacked – and somebody from the outside the country had to be brought in to look after and oversee this particular element! TOI reported to The Strategic Head – TSH – also brought from abroad. Both TOI and TSH reported directly to The Offices abroad – though there was a thin line of formal reporting to The CEO – who too was a man from abroad. Below him in the reporting channels were ‘our good boys and girls’ – and you never made to these lines – unless you were really good!

Sameer was complaining loudly – for the whole world to hear! My job entails dealings with the outside the company – for services to the staff – mainly for the interests of the expatriates’ benefits more than for the locals! How could you do these things to me? He kept screaming and shouting loudly – more for the benefit of the Staff under him in the adjoining office. More as he saw me coming in! The usual jovial fun thing coming from my side were met with complete disdain and disinterest manifesting on his face! He looked at me coolly and sharply! So I asked – one more – this time more seriously – So what gives?

Tell him – SAR said to me! Tell him – why I need this Office for myself alone – and not to be shared with someone else – especially that someone that comes from another function and line of responsibility – and not linked to the job that I do here! Tell him – SAR almost begged of  me! Tell him – about our culture – about ‘The Image’ thing – when the people I deal with come to visit me – as sometimes they do – and find me that I am a mere nobody – not an important person – despite the job that I do – and sharing my Office with someone else! And that someone else – is not even linked – or has any bearing to my job’ aspects? Tell him, M! – he implored of me!

TOI was just directing the Indian Office Mover to move SAR Office to which part of the room – and put the new furniture for the new guy coming in on this part of the room! The new coming-in guy was also coming from outside the country – his job ‘was special’ – and with exception of a few – no one knew what he was really doing here! And why put him in this Office – out of all offices? Unless he had a special task and mission – and no one knew even that what it was! With exception of the those ‘in charge and in control’ of the new twist of angle and situation.

TOI said to SAR – I will need you to remove all these religious placards and sayings – because the in-coming guy is from another faith! We do not want to upset! Besides – you have forgotten – this is an office – not a religious place! Put these things in your house – or anywhere else – but not here! This is not the place for it! Please remove them – he was saying – and facing the Indian foreman. SAR was so angry – I have to get out! – he said to me in Arabic – or I am going to hit this man – and they will terminate me instead!

It is good you are here – TOI was saying to me! I am coming to your Office next! I need to cut that office in half too – you too will be sharing with someone else too for that matter! SAR stammered – it seems to me you are only targeting locals who have single offices – but not the people from your own countries? Why is this so? This is highly irregular – and highly unethical, biased, unprincipled – and non professional too! You people should feel ashamed of yourselves – after us going all the ways in making you all feel welcomed and esteemed!

I got up from the chair – and walked to The HR Director offices. He too was an expatriate. I banged on his door – he opened the door. Inside was TSH with him! They were going through some strategic points and plans quietly together  – when they were rudely interrupted by me! I gave them – in a very loud voice – the very same points that SAR had given – all in vain! They were determined to split all those locals in single offices – and share with people from home base who were given sudden quick new job responsibilities and aspects!

Office Space AOffice 3

Images Offices – For Demonstration Purposes Only!

If it was a question of space – they should have started with The Director’s Office. It was not an office – but more resembling a cinema hall – with even sliding doors! It was certainly not a question of ‘needed more sinister offices’ – but more sinister forces at work! That he was now certain off! These people will not stop at anything – till they have destroyed everything – including themselves in the formula! It is said if you see something good – and prosperously growing for you – protect and nurture it – let it grow for you! Do not spit on your food! Do not put sand in your coconut pie – the East Africans like to say!

I shouted loud – if you want just to know what is going on in the offices – and this is why you are doing this – why don’t you just install ‘hearing bugs’ – or better still Closed Circuit Recordings (TVs)? Why go to all these hassles and extents? This is really going overboard! You will alienate everyone now – even those that were your supportive in the past! Do you realise what you are doing now? The repercussions and the after effects? You will switch off everyone – and we will just do our jobs quietly from now on! And communicate if we must in non-English communications! And even pretend our understanding and hearing of English has suddenly taken a dramatic twist and turn of going down far too low!

Office Space B

Images Offices – For Demonstration Purposes Only!

In switching us off – we will protest quietly – until someone from the Top our side intervenes! Or even from the few good peoples your side do so! You know what? We will act and pretend too – to be very hardworking and busy – but actually and literally doing nothing! Do not teach us old dogs’ tricks at this stage! The losers will be everyone – including those who sent you – and those who allowed you to do these things to us – from our own! We will no longer act responsible or try to be dynamic and proactive – and yes – even if you ask us – and even if we know of a situation – or anything else – we will not inform you – even if you ask us! We will forever keep you in the dark from now on! This is our way of protesting quietly – all on our own!

It is then he woke up with a start! His wife by the side was snoring slightly! Yet they say women do not snore – only men do!

Even in his dreams they took his books themes – especially the Arab Management ones! All at www.myownmajid.com Take Care!

Are You Our Mother? A Short Story!

A Short Family Story!

 Are You Our Mother?

The door bell rang continuously and incessantly.  Trust these things to happen always to you in more than one of the ten cases, as soon as you enter the shower or bath the bell would ring!  These are one of the unexplainable things in life, it never rings before you get into the bath or shower, nor soon after you have finished! The person who was ringing the bell must be desperate, or he or she just wanted to make a nuisance of oneself.  Some have this bad nasty habit – they will keep the bell pressed till the door is opened or they will let the phone ring on and on till someone answers it.  It is okay if it is at home, but at the office too?

Tried to ignore it or let it ring, so what! Ring! Ring!  Simply she had to get out of the shower and open the door.  She was about to give the person outside ‘a piece of her mind’ when she saw who was ringing the bell – and that made her winch with shame and guilt.  The girl was hardly twelve, but she looked tired, worn out and much older.   Life’s experiences and troubles makes one mature fast – and get older quicker too in the process.  She was clutching the hand of what looked like her younger brother – hardly five or six himself.

The girl was very polite.  I am sorry to take you out of your bath – but we are new here.  We come from the village from the Interior.  We are afraid we may have got lost.  Our mother is waiting in the car with our uncle some blocks from here – and we had to cross the street to come here.  I am sorry – the girl apologised again.  Looked sad and distraught with her sad big innocent almost crying eyes.  All the time she was holding tight the hand of his brother – as if he would run away and play truant – and put her in great trouble with her mother.

So what can I do for you?  – The wet dripping woman in her big white towel asked.  I am sorry – the girl said again – she was trying her best to be understood in her broken poor English.  Do you speak Arabic? – the girl finally implored the woman.  The woman looked young – she must be in her early thirties.  Looked like the age of her eldest sister or like her young aunty.  No, our mother told us not to get into the house.  Can you get our father for us?  No, I do not speak Arabic – I come from a non-Arabic speaking country.  Sorry! But I understand you – go ahead– the woman calmly said.

Your father? – The woman quizzed, puzzled and confused.  Your father?  She repeated herself the question.  Are you sure you came to the right house, my dears?   With the word dears, the girl started to cry!   The young brother consoled and comforted.  Do not cry sister, lets be brave and courageous, sis!  I do not understand – the woman implored – what is this all about, and why are you poor girl crying?   Tell me dear – why are you crying?  What is wrong?

Are you my new mother? – The girl finally had the courage to ask.  Are you my new mother?  Is our father here?   And who is your father? – The woman asked the girl.  My father is *RAR – he is our father!  We want to see our father – we want to talk to him and ask him some questions.   We want him to answer us! It is a family thing – we want to talk and ask questions to our father – please!

Your father is * RAR?   How is that possible?  He told me he did not have any young children.  Are you sure RAR is your father?  You are not trying to hoodwink me with your scam?   The girl cried again – this time loudly and profusely.  There, there, the woman comforted her – please, please do not cry!  You are also making me cry, see?   And the woman was crying with the girl together.  She could not control herself – the shock, the anguish and the pain – all of a sudden too – that was too much.  She did not want to hurt anyone – especially these poor innocent young children at her door. She had never wanted or dreamed to become in her life as a second wife. Her fears were now haunting her!

Our father – the boy was now speaking – finally.  He had left us at home in the village.  He does not come home in the weekend any more; he spends all his time in the town now with you.  Are you our new mother?   Yes – the woman said – but I did not know your father had young children.   He told me that all his children were grown up and had left the cuckoo’s nest.  Our father does not look after us anymore – he does not like us anymore.  Do we have another small baby brother or sister?   You know mother – the boy calmly said – we have not even food in the house.  Our mother is sick, and cannot work.  Only our aunties and uncles are looking after us – but our mother is proud, she wants dad to be responsible for us.  Not others!

No, I have no baby – the woman responded.  And I do not think I ever will with him anyway – with the way he has treated you.  No way!  I am returning home – this man tells too many lies.  I am sorry – please forgive me.  No, no – it is not your fault – both the children said together.  It is not your fault.  It is our father who is at wrong – not you.  We do not mind him marrying you – but why has he forgotten us completely?  Why?  Did we do anything wrong?

R U Our MotherH - Father Is Gone imagesCAG2N0C5

Images – For Demonstration Purposes Only!

What is this?  – The man said as he entered the house – who brought you here?  The children were drinking hot milk with some cakes and biscuits.  They looked hungry – as if they have not had some food for quite some time.  Hello Dear – the man said to the wife – Do not dear me! – The woman was shouting and screaming at the top of her voice – you always tell lies and fibs RAR.   You are never to be trusted!   You always let down peoples!   I want nothing more to do with you now!  Please get me my ticket – I am going home!   I want my divorce – the woman screamed and threw things around at the place and at the direction of the man.  You always have lied to me – the woman screamed again at the top of her voice.

See what you have done – the father reprimanded the children.  Your mother is at the bottom of this again!  She never wants me to be happy; I deserve some happiness in my life, at least now.  The children were cowering – their own mother never did these things to their father ever before.  And they had never seen their father ever so angry before!   He looked so distant and sad – tired and worn out.

The bell rang again incessantly.  Nobody bothered.  The boy got some courage and got up to open the door, with all the going-on around the place.  It was his mother and uncle at the door!!  They were tired waiting outside. As the boy had feared, a bigger scene was now coming into the place! All Hell was going to be let loose now! As it soon did!
