The Prophet (SAW) warned against envy by comparing it to fire that completely burns the wood. He (SAW) said: “Beware of jealousy, for verily it destroys good deeds the way fire destroys wood.” [Abu Dawood] Hasaad (Jealousy / Envy) is a disease of the heart and it causes impurity to the heart, when Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was asked who are the best of people? He (SAW) replied: “the one with a clean heart and truthful tongue.” They asked: ‘We understand a truthful tongue, but what does a clean heart mean?’ he answered: ‘It is the heart of one that is pious, pure, and is free of sin, transgressions, hatred and Hasad.” [Ibn Majah]

An African President – just after Independence from the colonial masters – was ‘teasing’ his congregation that the local ‘mentality and outlook’ that anything good must be ‘British – English’ and anything bad local!

For example?

Sad and Tragic!

A big rooster (chicken) must be an ‘English Chicken’ – thus ‘English orange’ – English mango (!) etc.! But there was no ‘English Cockroach’ – ‘English scorpion’ etc. – these were only local ones!

A question of mentalities and outlooks!

There is also this issue that some elements – perhaps more because of their backgrounds or perhaps sources support – think that they ‘know everything!’ and that they are better than everyone else and that they have more rights too! These people will never change – until it is too late for them – and everybody else too for that matter!

I do not know about you but I have recently found that at whichever turn I take now I do meet people that are not good nor sincere people in life that will make promises but not keep – and will purposefully and willfully annoy and upset you with bad hearts and intentions! They are the same people that would easily land you in great distress and troubles if it will suit them – and there are simply no red lines or barriers.

People that are proud and conceited – and even if they know they have done something purposefully wrong to you will Never Apologise – but smirk as you squirm and fidget.

People that will put fingers in your eyes – and expect you to not fidget and remain calm!

People that are moving us into polarization, divisions and splits – and abuse our hospitality, respect and welcome – because they see us divided, polarized, weak and docile!

People that are purposefully and willfully rude, arrogant, mean, vicious and dastardly!

Something gotta give – or break at anytime – like the cinder fire burning heatedly underneath before it surfaces – and explodes in our faces!

People that will judge and criticize you without knowing all the facts and the truth – because it suits them – or just do not care or bother!

It seems it is the in-thing fashionable thing to betray and cause harm and destruction as just being The Norm for many of them!

But the worst kind are those people that can help you in your plight and situation – but choose not to and not to be bothered! Why rock the boat? And what for?

Day by day things are getting worse – and even those people that were once considered nice and helpful are joining the bad and nasty group – with no scruples or conscientious objection.

We simply need to self analyse our selves and in deep conscience before we enter the cesspit of only more decay, decadence and malaise!!

Perhaps it is the age thing or depression setting in – or simply having been beaten many times before one has become sensitive and small things that never upset and annoy you before now do!

Perhaps being diabetic is also a contributory factor!

What do you think? Have you any views to share with the rest of us? Why are people so proud and conceited that only they are important and the rest are not! That they are only ones that are correct, ethical, principled and professional – but the rest are not!

It is not only outsiders but goes now with so-called friends, relatives and even family members too!

People that enjoy seeing others in troubles and distress – or enjoying putting them in troubles and distress.

No one cares or bothers anymore – and Religion has just become ‘a fashion’ – but not to put your soul, heart and mind into it!

And Yes! We do see things Live on Television how small things with bad hearts have turned so bad and led them to great disasters and calamities – but we ado not care nor bother – as if nothing can happen or touch us!

Allah have mercy on us!

Very sad and tragic!

May Allah Have mercy on us and Guide us to the right path and way – Ameen Amen

Bad Hearts At Work!

For Sunday – April 14th 2013

Between Us Only!

Bad Hearts At Work!

Accepted that it is quite unfair and unethical to generalise some life issues and aspects – but there is nothing that shakes me to my very foundation and breaks me into smithereens – than to find this thing as the on-going in thing nowadays especially! That is supposed to be so-called ‘some observing and religious people’ having the most mean, envious, jealous and bad hearts that you can ever find on the face of the earth!

Thus making just a mockery and façade of their practices and as being completely irrelevant and different to the real truth and reality! Give me an unobserving drunk but yet who has a good clean heart any day to these said individuals! You may well say that I am getting old and over sensitised – perhaps with bad experiences I have even become bitter, cynical and sceptical even – but if we real soul search and analyse ourselves – I think many people would agree with my sentiments and feelings here.

Of course there would be some that would say – you have said it all before – so what else is new? Move on – let things be! You can simply never change some – unless they really need and call out for help! A good friend of mine even cautioned me that you are now becoming like those old type of records (18 and 43 rpm) that have been played for long repeatedly – and the music that comes out – unalike the new CD gadgets – of ‘losing the original touch’! Forget it – you have done your bit! Give us new topics – or move along!

Do people remember your personal sacrifices in order to see there are ethics, professionalism and transparencies – justice and fairness – at the work front? Not at all! The same people that you made sacrifices to are now teasing and talking about you behind your back! Just wasted efforts – wasted dedications and loyalties only! No one bothers to acknowledge – or to remember! If you are looking for reward or acknowledgement – then get it from The Good Lord only – and from no one else – family, relatives and friends included!

Frankly, I can recall real live examples that I had encountered in my career life. Both deal with expatriates and as I came into the Companies. In both cases, the complaints were against in one a Very Senior Manager (my direct local boss!) and where they had complained to even the CEO- but nothing had happened. They thought my coming in ‘would solve their problem’.  In their words – you look like a person that one can talk to’ – unalike the rest! The complaint was the Top Guy making ‘continuous  very nasty racialist jokes’  on one ethnic expatriate group. The joke had lost its ‘original touch and taste’ and was now just annoying and upsetting them intensely!

The other was how Junior Expatriates were treated by The Senior Management vis-à-vis their contracts, renewals and terminations.- unalike the more senior ones! Please keep remembering the point that I was new and on a temporary contract in both cases. Not on full time contract basis. Despite all odds against me – I was able to solve both the problems despite these. That is what distinguishes a real competent professional ethical  HR  from the rest of the crowd. So whilst it is so easy to judge others and go by heresay – it is important to do your job in HR as being ‘the Company’s Conscience Keeper’! Both incidents are in my Arab Management books including many others too! My website www.myown-ebooks.com

It seems to be the in-fashion thing nowadays that the more bad things you do to others the more up career-wise and rewards you get nowadays. That is why people like us would always suffer. But I am afraid and scared of my Allah SWT God always – even if I remain unremembered and forgotten – and to rub salt into the wound – ridiculed and poked fun at!

This article is dedicated to one great high profile lady – whom I really respect and admire – and whose husband had died recently from complications of being diabetic. May Allah God give you patience and forbearance in this tragedy and May Allah God rest his soul in eternal peace in this world and the next – take him away from the punishment of the grave – and open the doors of the highest heavens for him – Amin

You will forgive me lady F – I really had tried to get him the job – so he could come back to Oman and be with you in his last few years before dying – but it was not left for me alone to make the job offer – though he had a better job offer in the same profession in the other GCC country! What more can I say now?

Doing Bad Things To Others!

Between Us Only!

Doing Bad Things To Others!

Or What Goes Around; Comes Around!

My philosophy and outlook in life still remains the same – If you can help someone – then please do so! But if you cannot – then be straightforward and transparent – and say so! And explain why – and give possible advices and solutions – if you can! But most importantly – do not go for lies, deceit, double crossings – and stab at the back! Respect everyone first before others can respect you. And lead by examples – and not empty words and rhetoric – at whatever level in society that you are! There is also good in everyone – sometimes you may have to search deep to find even the trace of it!

And if you are planning to do good – do it whole not in parts – and certainly you do not choose which part to do – and which part to omit! Either you do it whole – or don’t! These are the basic bare necessities and truth of life – and living with others!

This week a relative called me saying that he had found someone from that distant land desperately looking for me as he was visiting Oman. He is not well off but he does not like to impose on others – and though he has many relatives here – he still prefers to stay in hotels. He says to me – That is the way I can keep in touch – and still remain with myself in respects!

When I left this person was hardly 12 – but now what I see in front of me is this man who looks over 50 – and though quite younger than me – definitely looks much older – with all his beard and hair all grey! With slow moving tired lazy dead-beat eyes and face – he says Hello to me distantly! He looks forlorn and dead beat tired! Some people are not Huggers and Kissers on The Cheeks – I am one of them – but after a second of wait and confusion – he hugs me! Of course the size he knew before has blossomed three times more – whilst he has remained forlorn and thin!

We talk about the old times – and in a way his mother is a sort of distant relative – and an aunt at most! He remembers how I took him and his brother to school for the first time – a frightening never to forget experience for the poor kids! He remembered the nice comforting words – and how that ‘really made a difference to us’ – especially later on – boys being boys – the few bullies around!

Then he told me about a Teacher ‘that had the most dislike, animosity and hatred towards you M – for no other reason except that I stood my ground – and allowed no one to breathe down my back and bully me. The Teacher was not used to this! Always students scurriedly hurried and shied from him – in fear and terror. He was like the Bulldozer – pushing down anything that stood in its path!

People do not know the real me – but frankly and honestly speaking – it was sad what he said next. That the poor man went bonkers and mad walking around the streets – started with his wife leaving him taking with her the kids. He ran his personal and social life the same way he dealt with his pupils – and life had caught up with him! He was also socially and relationships outcasted from the rest of his family – and ‘friends’ – if he had any that could stand him!

The East Africans have this expression – The True Woman comes out when her husband has become poor (lost his job!) – and The True Man when he (suddenly) becomes rich! And the person who digs a well will himself fall into it – or in other words – what goes around; comes around! A famous theme song in most of my writings, columns and books – www.myown-ebooks.com You can also read about whatever I have written in my website above!

In one of the places that I had worked long time ago – I – as being in Human Resources – made a Company Policy Proposal (CPP) in my official capacity for some changes proposals in the Company Human Resources Policies and Procedures Manual – that would have benefitted especially Retiring Omani Staff (and Their Families). Despite passing approval from my direct expatriate boss – it was vehemently rejected by the Top Omani Director – as ‘it would add costs to the company operating budget’ – even though the same facilities and services were provided to expatriates – but not the locals (then). The man was heard muttering exasperatedly – ‘This will only pass over my dead body!’ – and satirically – ‘tongue in cheek’ speaking – it nearly did – when this Director himself retired!

In writing my book Psychology of Arab Management Thinking – I quote many real examples and similar cases – and many Offices related – some life related – but people still never learn!

People should always remember that if you purposefully, willfully and evilly do bad things to others – it will haunt you – and come back to you! Especially if you do it to someone who has not done anything bad or against you – you will be punished before they bury you 6 feet deep in the ground – or cremate you! This is a certainty and a surety – and it may take time – but it will happen – if not to you directly but then those near you! Only you will be asking – that you have now conveniently forgotten – Why Me? Oh Lord – Why me? What have I done to deserve this?

What goes around; comes around! Take Care!
